Ann Curry
Ann Curry is an American journalist and photojournalist. She has worked as a journalist for more than 45 years focusing on the human suffering in areas of conflict and natural disasters. Curry has covered wars across the world, including in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. She was most well-known by her position as a correspondent on the Today program, which was a morning news program aired by the National Broadcasting Co. (NBC). Curry is well-known for her reporting of emergencies and disasters that affect the human condition, especially in countries who have been ravaged by conflicts. Curry was born in Japan, and educated by a Japanese mother. Her father was an U.S. Navy sailor. Their parents got acquainted while their father was stationed in Japan shortly after World War II. Because of her father's work in the military, they moved a lot. Curry graduated from high school in Ashland Oregon. In 1978 she graduated at in the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. It is possible that she learned to communicate with empathy thanks to the exposure she received to other cultures during her childhood. Curry could not go to a single school for in more than two years since her family moved often. She attended schools in the cities of San Diego, Alameda Oregon, and Virginia. Ashland was her last high school. In her time as an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon she was able to lay the foundation for a lengthy and lucrative radio career. She became the first female reporter in the history of the station at 22. Following that, she went into anchor and reporter for KGW, an NBC affiliate station in Portland. After moving to Los Angeles, she became reporter at KCBS TV 4 years following her arriving in the city. She was awarded 2 Emmy Awards during the six years she spent with this station.
